Caring with Dignity: Inside Our Senior Citizen Home in Hazaribagh

Muskan Foundation10 Oct 20262 min read

Growing old should mean living with dignity, care and companionship. Yet many elderly people in rural Jharkhand are vulnerable, neglected or without adequate family support. Muskan Foundation’s Senior Citizen Home in Hazaribagh was built to give them a safe place to call home.

A home, not just a shelter

Muskan Foundation operates a 25-bed Senior Citizen Care Home in Hazaribagh, Jharkhand, with support from the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India. The home provides residential care and a safe living environment for elderly persons who need it most.

Care for body and mind

Daily life at the home is built around the health and well-being of residents:

  • Regular health check-ups and access to essential medicines
  • Nutritious meals with attention to residents’ dietary needs
  • Care staff and support services
  • Recreational activities, exercise and social interaction
  • Referrals to local hospitals when additional medical attention is needed

Made possible by partnership

Caring for elders is a shared responsibility, and the home is supported by several partners:

  • LIC — infrastructure support
  • HelpAge India — regular health check-ups
  • NBJK — eye-care check-ups and spectacles for needy senior citizens
  • Vridhi Care — a television and water and cold-water dispensers for the residents’ comfort

Every elder deserves care, respect and the company of others — not loneliness.

Reducing isolation

For many residents, the biggest change is not the bed or the meals — it is having people around them again. Shared meals, conversations, exercise and celebrations help reduce social isolation and support emotional well-being.

How you can help
